The Oak Dining Room
Only by the end of the 1800s, as people became wealthier and houses became bigger, did one room evolve for the sole purpose of dining. Intimate and private, the Stevens Estate’s small dining room is completely framed with solid oak raised paneling enhanced by bronze plaster inlays that reflect with sunshine streaming in and complement the coffered ceiling. Sided by solid oak built-in sideboards topped by glass-front cabinets, the massive stone fireplace with its mantel with a leaf motif and carved scrolled wooden pilasters commands the room. An early 19th-century, solid oak dinner table, designed for a banquet, centers the room.
Six-foot, curved windows overlook the porch, veranda and landscaped grounds.
